(Central Victorian Community
Broadcasters Inc.. Loves community access radio with a passion. "True community
radio," Geoff says, "is all about service to as many community (non-profit)
groups and individuals with a need and a drive to communicate their message, be
it musical specialty or particular interest) to as wide a range of people as
possible. "It does not and never should try to mimic commercial radio but,
rather, seeks to fill a great and till now unmet need in our community for
individuals and groups to reach out through the medium of radio in a form which
is both interesting and entertaining."
"We are not," Geoff adds, "biased or slanted
towards one musical genre or another; all are equal and welcome given the
necessary training in studio protocol and broadcast guidelines sufficient to
present a programme clearly and enjoyably."
Geoff hosts a talk and music programme each
Wednesday morning from nine a.m. till midday, canvassing a limitless range and
variety of interesting people, subjects and events, interspersed with,
predominantly but not exclusively, bluegrass music which just happens to be a
driving musical passion for Geoff. Talk and music form a nice balance with one
another. With outstanding panel operator and co-host Sam Harrison, Wednesday
Talk is a widely listened to show each week both locally and internationally via
our internet stream; feedback emails always welcome.
’Tune into ‘Talking Sport’ each
Friday night from 7pm until 8.30pm.
The show covers local
football, basketball, cricket, cycling and many other sports each week. The show hosted by
Jackson Saunders, involves interviews with local sporting identities.
As part of his program,
however, Jackson also strives to interview people
who started their sporting careers in Bendigo and have gone onto to become elite
sports people in their own right.
Some of these people
have included Australian National Netball captain Sharelle McMahon; 2008
Hawthorn premiership player Brent Guerra; former 184 game AFL player Adrian
Hickmott; Richmond’s Dustin Martin; former Bulldog and Tiger Nathan Brown; and
former 297 game Richmond player Wayne Campbell.
Olympians Glenn Ashby,
Faith Leech, Chantelle Newbery and Kristi Harrower, have also featured as
guests.
In addition, Jackson uses the show to
promote sports which don’t receive as much publicity. He has already covered
waterpolo, rowing, kayaking, softball, rugby, swimming, athletics and much more.
He is also a member of
the Phoenix FM football team, and can be heard broadcasting the Bendigo Pioneers
home games at the Queen Elizabeth Oval.
He currently works as a
journalist at The Bendigo Advertiser, and cherishes the opportunity to provide
extensive sports coverage for the community on 106.7 Phoenix FM.

A unique tag? But then, Colin James is unique... ask his many friends around Australia. They will all tell you that Colin James is quite different... not just because he performs on stage in his wheel chair, but because he has crammed more into his lifetime than most able-bodied people have. For example, Colin has...

After
several years as a country music presenter, seated (I brought my own chair) at
the microphone in various time slots, I have been granted two new programmes on
Community Radio station Phoenix FM.
This
comes about as the result of the station being granted a full-time license and
changing its frequency from 89.5 to 106.7. from March 31st 2010
Oh,
the new programmes? First up, commencing on Good Friday (I'm not sure if this
is an appropriate date) with Colin
& Bobbie's Comedy Corner (Bobbie is one of my support workers) from 12.30 -
2.30 p.m.
Then,
two days later, on Easter Sunday from 2 - 4 p.m. will be Nostalgia Nook, playing
songs from yesteryear, featuring all your old singers and entertainers - like
me!
It
will be a sad loss for me to give up my much loved country music show after such
a long time. It will also be sad saying farewell to my 'platter partner'
Rhonda Marchioni, who has been a great side kick putting up with all my nonsense
on - and off - air over the years. Thanks a million Rhonda. I hope we can do
it again some time.
Finally,
thanks to all our listeners. From all parts of Australia, as well as other
parts of the world, your requests have always been a welcome part of our
programme as it has been (and the new ones will continue to be) streamed across
the globe, by logging into www.phoenixfm.org/ and following the prompt "listen
to Phoenix FM". Your requests will, of course, still be welcome on both of the
new shows.
So
remember to tune in on AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Times) to Phoenix FM

I came to Australia from Dundee, Scotland in 1960, so I am really “Dinky- Dy”?
Spent some years in Melbourne, Swan Hill and arrived inBendigo in 1975, for what was supposed to be a short time?
Taught Practical classes at White Hills Tech. [Weroona College] for seventeen years, took an early retirement, had a great holiday overseas, mostly in Scotland, with my wife Jo.
I joined 3CCC in October 1982, enjoyed every minute of it. There are always “Magic” moments on radio, and one such moment was when I played a special tune for my wife’s birthday,I started off by saying “To my number one Wife “—very soon after the manager rushes into the studio and asked what I had said on Air, he said there was a very irate listener on the phone. I picked up the phone and discovered it was a regular listener, very upset about my number one wife, she thought I was a Christian person, and should only have one wife.
It took a bit of explaining, but I convinced her it was just a figure of speech- we remained friends.
I have had many highlights over the years, but two that were certainly up there with the best were interviews, the first was with a very famous Scottish singer Kenneth McKellar, who turned out to be a charming personality, and very appreciative of his time on the radio. The second interview was with John Woods, actor, well known from“Blue Heelers” , and also from his many stage roles, but I just could not get him to wear the kilt?
I am a member of Phoenix Fm and have a Scottish program"Scotts Corner" Mondays between 2.30 and 4.30pm
