CMR MOVES FROM THE RADIO TO THE INTERNET

In a bold move, leading country music broadcaster Nick Erby ended his weekend commercial radio broadcasts to begin a 24 hour internet radio station called CMR Online.

The final broadcast on the Super Network was Sunday August 17.

“CMR online has been in development for some time”, Nick said. “The internet is the way of the future. So much of our entertainment and information is becoming available on-line and accessing the material is becoming more and more portable – over the next couple of years I believe there is a great opportunity to reach a truly national country music audience via the internet.”

Nick said his move away from the weekend broadcasts was also a lot about cutting back his work load and doing some other things.  Although he is very grateful for the support CMR received from (Super Network owner) Bill Caralis he is sure it was the right time to move on. “I’ve been developing some other projects along with the internet station and I will soon become a Civil Celebrant – that’s something very new and very interesting” he said.

The internet radio station is mostly music, with the established CMR mix of “today’s biggest hits and the all-time favourites” playing 24 hours a day Monday – Friday. Over the weekend CMR Online uses Nick’s vast library of classic hits from the 90s back to the Golden Oldies to program “the best Country songs of all-time” with a break at 8am and 8pm (Tamworth time) on Sunday for a two hour special block which will feature CMR’s flagship programs The Country Tracks Countdown and the Coffee Break.

CMR Online is available to everyone who can access the internet via a computer of mobile phone at www.countrymusicradio.com.au

ARTISTS CONTINUE SUCCESS AT INDEPENDENT AWARDS

For many artists nominated in the finals of the 2008 Sou thern Stars - the 12th Australian Independent Country Music Awards presented by Neighbourhood Cable & Grapevine – it’s a continuation of what has been a great twelve months.

For some like HARMONY JAMES, AMBER LAWRENCE, LOU BRADLEY, CARTER & CARTER, GRAHAM RODGER, PETER PRATT, ROSE CARLEO, JONAH’S ROAD and JETTY ROAD, it’s more accolades after their finalist berths in the 2008 Golden Guitars.

A number of this years finalists like Amber Lawrence, Carter & Carter, Markus Meier and Graham Rodger were winners in the 2007 Australian Independent Country Music Awards, whilst o thers like MATT MANNING, 8 BALL AITKEN, ADAM JAMES, BRAD COLE, KELLY HOPE and TRACY KILLEEN have their first taste of pre-awards expectations.

Awards Coordinator John Arnold said this year’s nominations reflected the continuing strong growth of the Independent country music industry in Australia.

“We received 234 nominations from 93 individual artists and groups,” said Mr Arnold, “but what really stood out amidst the finalists in the eight judged categories was the mix of well-established artists together with some outstanding emerging talent.

“Previous wins mean nothing in the awards, and there’s no better example than Album of the Year where the finalists are all debut country albums.”

It is an excellent example, and all of the finalists, Drew McAlister’s Here To There, Markus Meier’s Raindance, Amber Lawrence’s The Mile and 8 Ball Aitken’s Rebel With A Cause have already achieved significant chart success with radio singles over the past year.

The Awards are staged during the 22nd Mildura Country Music Festival. Winners will be announced on Saturday 4 October at the awards presentation concert at 5.30pm in the Mildura Arts Centre Theatre. Tickets are available by calling 1800 039 043.

The Awards will be broadcast live on the internet for the first time this year on CMR Online www.countrymusicradio.com.au

Full details of the finalists are on the Mildura Festival website at www.milduracountrymusic.com.au

What People Say

Out to Australian radio this week

NfS 124, Track 14

At an age when some artists would consider hanging up their microphones, Connie Kis Andersen decided to plunge head-first into a career as a country music recording artist regardless of, and despite what people said.

Promoting her music from Perth, the most isolated capital city in the world, isn’t easy and at times the obstacles are downright difficult. Never-the-less Connie Kis continues to follow her true passion and is a successful, shining example to other free spirits to live and think outside the box, despite the good opinion of others. What People Say; the up-beat new single from her award-winning album, Once Again reflects just that.

2008  - NEW COMPILATION ALBUM FOR KAREN LYNNE

The new year brings forth another album for Australian Country, Folk and Bluegrass artist Karen Lynne. This album is the sixth album in her impressive independent catelogue, which now includes 3 solo albums and two collaborative offerings - one with Sydney Bluegrass band “Acoustic Shock” and the other with singer/songwriter Pat Drummond.

Titled “The Singles”, this album is her first compilation album, and combines many of the Radio Singles released from all five previous albums to date in a most delightful package. Being Singles released to Australian Radio, all the songs are top quality and present a genuine sample of each of the albums for anyone interested in seeking out a particular title. Said Karen, “It’s been well over 20 years now since I started out in my musical career and after all those years singing and five albums I think I’ve ‘earned my stripes’ so to speak, and the right to present a compilation album! I guess you could say it was a kind of ‘Celebration’ of my years singing and recording in the industry and a really nice summary of me & my musical journey so far. Also by using the ‘Singles’ released to radio over the years, it means that the listener gets a snippet of some of the best tracks from each of my albums, all on one disc.”

As Karen has always skated between Country, Bluegrass and Folk, it is a great album for first time fans who may not be familiar with her many styles. It has also been packaged for use as a great promotional tool for any Media personnel wishing to understand more about her music and not only contains 15 tracks, but includes a detailed Discography with biographical & album information, individual track chart placings, Award information for each album and a Video Clip as well. Anyone wanting to know more about the album should contact her through the contact details provided.

Other titles Available from Karen Lynne:-
Labour of Love – Solo (SR 19)
Six Days in December – Duet (SR 18)
Blue Mountain Rain – Bluegrass (SR 20)
Second Wind – Solo Country (SR 38)
Changes - Solo Bluegrass (SR 55)
